What Our Program Provides

"Helping Hands Outreach has saved my life!" is one comment from a woman in her 80s who had lost hope of being able to stay in her lifelong home. Her sentiments are echoed by many others who have been helped by neighborly volunteers over the last 9 years in rural northeast Stearns County, Minnesota. In fact, 382 older adults and adults with disabilities have been provided with over 30,483 hours of services to help them remain in their homes.

We provide a wide variety of services through a network of neighborhood volunteers. We try to listen to the needs expressed by older adults and adults with disabilities while appreciating their strengths. We respect and defer to the caring of the immediate family members and friends and work with them to lend a hand to the persons in need.  When appropriate, we help the person access other resources.

We provide the followng services. Maybe you or someone you know could benefit from support in one or more of these areas:

  • Transportation

  • Light Housework

  • Chore Services

  • Meal Preparation

  • Shopping and Errands

  • Simple Home Repairs and Home Modification

  • Snow Removal or Lawn Care

  • Friendly Visiting or Companionship

  • Phone Contact

  • Assistance with Forms or Paperwork

  • Hospital & Nursing Home Transition to Home

  • Respite Care and Support for Caregivers

In addition to these direct volunteer services we have been providing an increasing amount of Education and Training to persons to help them to make healthy choices that help enhance the quality of their lives at home.
